TERMITE CONTROL

WHY DO I HAVE A TERMITE PROBLEM?

Termites live and feed in the soil. They are attracted to properties that have damp soil and decaying wood. Once living on your property, the likelihood of them finding their way into your home is high. Termites invade wooden structures (door frames, decks posts, wooden shingles, porch steps) after emerging from the soil. They can find their way inside through cracks in the foundation. Termites also find their way onto properties during a termite swarm. A termite swarm is when reproductive members of a termite colony emerge from the nest to find a mate and create a new nest.

WHERE WILL I FIND TERMITES?

As their name suggests, Eastern subterranean termites create their nest in moist soil underneath the ground. Termites travel from their food source to their nest through underground tunnels or mud tubes that they create on the surface of basement walls, foundations, and the ground. Mud tubes help to keep termites out of view of predators and meet their high moisture needs. Termites find their way inside homes while foraging for food. Inside homes and other structures they travel behind walls, underneath flooring, and above ceilings. They will tunnel through and feed on structural supports, beams, flooring, wooden trim, and sub-flooring. Termites are initially attracted to water-damaged or decaying wood, but as an infestation develops they will eventually begin attacking sound wood and even non-wooden items.
